Funky Roseau! Digging in Dominica…

hottest-sounds300

A cheap and cheerful selection of tunes that were dug up on the beautiful island of Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic!). There aren’t any record shops left on the Island, but after a few weeks hanging out in the bars of Roseau (especially the legendary Jackson’s) and a hastily placed advert in the paper, the records started to come out of the woodwork…

A mixed bag of crackly Funk, Soul and Calypso, picked up everywhere from hairdressers and electrical supply shops to dubious shacks in the ever-interesting Newtown, just outside the capital.

Best enjoyed sitting in the shade with some fried fish, a few bush rums and an ice-cold Kubuli…

Why did I find this so late? What an amazing mix! A whole bunch of killers, “share brother share” and “let me get stoned” are my faves but the whole mix is super solid and a real jaw dropper.

Thanx!
